Practical training for students from UACEG in the Center for Trenchless Technologies

On 15th and 16th July, the Technological Center for New Developments in Trenchless Technologies in Kazanlak welcomed sixty students from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy for their summer practical training. The students are in their third year, specialty “Water supply and sewerage”, and that was their first contact with trenchless technologies. The lecturers, eng. Pavel Gruev and Gancho Hristov from Stroitelna Mehanizatsia AD, Kazanlak presented the main trenchless technologies to the future specialists: Horizontal Directional Drilling, Casing Pipe Ramming Using a Pneumatic Rammer and Microtunnelling – for construction of new pipelines, and Cured-in-place Pipe and Spirally Wound in Place Pipe, used for rehabilitation of old water-mains and sewers. The practical part included demonstrations of the operation of remote-controlled robots for pipeline inspection, removing of obstacles from the inside of water supply and sewerage facilities and for opening of laterals after the rehabilitation. The students witnessed the rehabilitation of a pipeline using the technology Cured-in-place Pipe, as well as machines, equipment and materials for the other trenchless technologies, and they also visited the laboratory for material testing of the center.

The representatives of the prestigious university were impressed by the potential for application and the advantages of trenchless technologies. They shared their desire to broaden their knowledge and to extend their experience of these ecological technologies because they foresee that they will actually apply them in their future professional work.
