Students from UACEG study Trenchless Technologies
The future water and sewerage engineers were introduced to trenchless technologies during their summer practical training when they visited the Center for Trenchless Technologies in Kazanlak.
The third-year students, specialty Water Supply, Sewerage and Water Treatment in the Faculty of Hydrotechnics of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy received their first guidelines for the application of ecological technologies for pipeline rehabilitation and construction. The training of the students was in two parts – theory and practice. Eng. Gancho Hristov from Stroitelna Mehanizatsia AD presented to the future professionals the innovations in the inspection of existing underground pipelines by demonstrations of mapping the exact coordinates of pipeline networks using a gyroscope, sonar profiling of pipelines and CCTV inspection using a robot. The students also witnessed removing of obstacles from the inside of pipelines using a remote-controlled robot. They were introduced to the trenchless technologies for pipeline rehabilitation: Cured-in-place Pipe, Spirally Wound in Place Pipe and rehabilitation through the application of geopolymer coating. The opportunity to see the machines and equipment for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation was helpful to the trainees. The students were also introduced to the trenchless technologies for construction of new pipelines: Horisontal Directional Drilling, Pipe Ramming Using a Pneumatic Rammer and Microtunnelling.
